Fasting for Rejuvenation

Fasting Diet Plans

Popular Fasting Diet Plans

Fasting is popular and with good reason. In 2018, it was one of the most searched for diet terms on Google. I support fasting because it has been clinically shown to promote health and longevity. It helps people lose weight (especially belly fat), reduce inflammation, promote healthy blood sugar, blood pressure, triglyceride and cholesterol levels. When fasting occurs for more than 3 consecutive days, it shifts the body into a state of cellular clean-up and rejuvenation. But avoiding food for over 3 days is neither commonly possible nor recommended for most people, that is why I recommend fasting with foodTM

These are several popular methods of fasting:

1. Time restricted eating or the 16:8 fasting diet plan: Fasting for 16 hours and eating your usual healthy diet during an 8 hour time period. It is common for people to fast between 7pm and 11 am but other time frames work too.

2. Intermittent fasting diet plan or alternate day eating or 5:2 plan: Fasting for 24 hours for two nonconsecutive days a week. Women may have zero to 500 calories on their fast day and men may have zero to 600 calories.

3. Prolonged fasting is consuming nothing but water for 3 days or longer. Few people can tolerate the hunger and discomfort of fasting for more than a couple days.

My Dietitian-Recommended 5 Day Fasting Mimicking Diet

Overall these popular fasting methods are attractive tools because they’re easy to follow, require minimal planning, and are somewhat easy to stick to versus doing a complete dietary overhaul.

Don’t get me wrong, some people need a dietary overhaul because fasting won’t fix an unhealthy lifestyle and poor food choices.

The issue is short fasts (from several hours to 1-2 days) only deliver a portion of results possible with fasting. Until recently, most people didn’t know this. This is why I encourage patients to incorporate a prolonged 5 day fasting diet instead, where additional health benefits such as cellular clean-up can be achieved. And, the easiest way to do this is by using ProLon® Fasting Mimicking Diet®.

Personally, I have used this product myself and loved it. I usually lose a few pounds, especially around my belly, slash my sugar cravings, and reduce my blood sugar levels. Most of all, my skin feels smooth and I have a high degree of energy upon completion. Talk about whole body rejuvenation!
